Days 63 - 64: Medan to Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok

Our bus ride from Parapat back to Medan and our flights from Medan to KL and KL to Bangkok were uneventful, so I think now’s a good time to talk about the wonders of AirAsia. Travel through Southeast Asia used to be quite difficult, as reaching many places involved waiting days for the next slow boat. Now, it’s easy. AirAsia flies to every major island in Southeast Asia, and fares are dirt cheap. Our flights from Medan to KL and KL to Bangkok were $30-40 each, and we didn’t book our tickets until a few days beforehand. If only travel in the US were this easy.

We spent most of our day in KL catching up on emails (Danau Toba was all dial-up), and we arrived in Bangkok that night ready to pounce on the Myanmar Embassy as soon as it opened on Monday morning.
